Koi nobori, April 26, 2010

This is the huge koi nobori banner that they have every year in front of the Misawa Catholic Yochien. It is for Boys' Day (Children's Day) in Japan, and is celebrated on May 5 each year. The Koi, or carp, is a symbol of strength in Japan. Many businesses and families display their Koi nobori outside their homes and buildings. It's a great marker that spring has arrived in Japan!
