Matsushima and Sendail trip, Memorial Day, May 2010
We spent Memorial Day weekend in Matsushima and Sendai, about 4-5 hours from Misawa by car. The area is beautiful, with the bay and a lot of pretty little islands covered with pine trees. It is considered one of the three views of Japan. The town of Sendai is larger Japanese city, and very modern. It's always nice to escape to a big city from Misawa every once and awhile...

Mindy's overnight trip to Osan, Korea
Mindy went on an overnight trip to Osan, Korea at the end of May with friends Andrea and Kodi. It was a short trip, but free! The military has a flight that leaves Misawa on Mondays, and returns every Tuesday. It is a short two hour flight, and we stayed on the base in Korea. It is the same base that Mindy was stationed at 10 years ago, and it has changed quite a bit. We went shopping, and ate lots of good food. We ate at a really good Thai restaurant for dinner with Claire and Sharon, and had Korean snacks in between.

Hachinohe Umineko Half Marathon
Mother's Day, May 9, 2010. I ran the Hachinohe Umineko (Japanese for seacat, or seagull) half marathon. The run went well except for my ipod locking up at mile 6! It was a fun day, and afterwards we all had a Southern style dinner. My legs weren't even sore the next day, and I ran another 10K the following Saturday.
